God Encounters: Easter

There’s something that’s been on my heart this season.

Beyond the egg drop, the Easter choirs, or the Sunday celebrations, there’s something I want everyone who calls Create Church their home to do this week. I want us to reflect on the depth of what Easter really means.  When Jesus walked out of the grave, He did more than leave an empty tomb in Jerusalem. He made a way to be right with God. No longer do our brokenness and sin have authority. I want to break this idea down into three simple truths:

1. Resurrection = Healing

In John 20:11-16, Mary Magdalene was crying outside the tomb of Jesus, but she didn’t realize that He was standing right in front of her. It was only after Jesus called her by name that she recognized Him. Have you ever had a moment like that, when you needed to hear more, see more, or know more? Jesus’ victory over death is fundamental to both physical and spiritual healing. I’ve been fortunate enough to see supernatural healings before my very eyes. I pray you can see the same. In Matthew 8:16-17, it is written, “When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: ‘He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.'” Maybe you’re currently going through a separation or divorce, or maybe you’re struggling with sickness or chronic pain. Whatever it is you’re going through, remember that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ (Romans 8:35, 38-39).

He knows your name, and He wants to heal your heart.

2. Resurrection = Peace

In John 20:19-21, the disciples were afraid and hiding behind locked doors. Suddenly, Jesus appeared among them and said, “Peace be with you.” He showed them the wounds in His hands and side, and they were filled with joy when they saw Him. Then, He said, “As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” The resurrection proves the enemy does not have the final say. Death is not the end for us who believe in Jesus, but rather a transition to eternal life in His presence. This simply means no matter your circumstance, there is hope. And hope is a spiritual cure for anxiety, fear, and worry.

Additionally, Jesus’ resurrection reveals His authority over all the forces of darkness. Jesus stole the keys of death, hell, and the grave. They have no authority over Him, and they hold no authority over you.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

3. Resurrection = Belief

In John 20:3, 6, 8, and 10, Peter and John went to the tomb of Jesus and saw that it was empty. It was only then that they believed that He had risen from the dead. Scripture says that it was only after he saw the empty grave that the disciple John believed. Can you believe that? John — the disciple whom Jesus loved. He saw Jesus walk on water, feed the 5,000, and calm a storm with his voice. Yet, it wasn’t until the resurrection that he believed.

This powerful moment gives us the ability to trust God’s promises, even in the midst of incredible hardships. The knowledge that Jesus conquered death is the ultimate proof. We know that whatever difficulties we may face in this life, we have a God who is greater than all of them, and who has already overcome them through His resurrection.

In short, the resurrection of Jesus provides the ultimate proof of His divine authority and gives you the ability to believe all His promises. Every one.
